Heaven's Hill Skiers
Three men decided to ski the beautiful and long backcountry ski route on Heaven's Hill. They took an incorrect line and ended up in the Puerto Nambe area and not able to find their way out. ASAR responders located them after receiving their coordinates and spent all night taking them out of the field in very cold and icy conditions. |
Truchas CampersTrampas Lake campers (male/female) were injured by fallen tree. The female had pelvic and other serious injuries. The male had injuries hindering most mobility. County Fire reached them first proceeding in a litter evacuation half way down the trail before SAR volunteers reached them and gave relief. Both subjects were taken out by ambulance to nearest hospital.

Dad and Daughter LostMom, dad and daughter (9 yrs old) were on a day hike in the Pecos Wilderness. Mom became tired and decided to go back to the car while dad and daughter continued to Aspen Peak. The got lost coming out. ASAR located them in the Nambe watershed. Dad struggled with a hip injury and had to be evacuated by litter. Daughter remained in good spirits and was happy to reunite with her mother.

Missing SnowboarderA visiting snowboarder was reported missing at Santa Fe Ski Area when he did not meet up with friends as arranged. ASAR and SFSAR teamed up with Santa Fe Ski Patrol to cooperatively search a lot of area. After a cold night of searching both sides of Tesuque peak, including down to Big Tesuque campground, the subject was found by a National Guard Blackhawk helicopter alive and well in the Nambe basin the next morning. He was airlifted out to Santa Fe.

Lost Hiker near GalisteoA female day hiker left a group who were hiking to an archaeological site because she felt fatigued and overheated. She planned to return to their vehicle but became lost. A mission was initiated by members of her group who returned to their vehicle after their hike and did not find her. A state helicopter was able to find her and bring her to incident base where she met ASAR team members who there provided assistance.

Injured Sheriff's DeputyAsar was called out to assist with a trail evacuation of a Sheriff's Deputy who had injured his knee. ASAR performed a medium angle lower of about 150 feet to a trail and wheeled the subject out on a litter. The subject used crutches for a steep section of trail before becoming too tired. ASAR, in conjuction with Santa Fe SAR, completed the evacuation in the litter.

Treasure Hunter in White RockMissing hiker had been out for 18 hours and last contact was with her boyfriend (16 hours prior). Two ASAR responders with 3 teams in field for first operational period. Overnight, a cell phone ping was received and a rough idea of the subject’s location was identified. During the second operational period she was located.

Family Lost on Chamisa TrailMother and her 3 young children became lost on Chamisa Trail on New Years Day. She was able to call 911 from her cell phone. She described her location to IC who determined that she is approximately 1 mile in on the trail at the junction on the saddle near a map. A State Trooper and a team of three Atalaya SAR members brought the family out safely. They were in good condition however slightly cold.

Overdue Taos Box KayakersTwo novice kayakers in over their heads abandoned their boats shortly into their river trip in the Taos Box, and attempted to walk out. They were discovered the next day by the daughter of one kayaker, and escorted out by SAR teams— dehydrated, hungry, and tired, but otherwise no worse for wear. ASAR played a critical medical role in assessing and transporting the subjects.

Female, age 49, Missing in TaosHer car was parked at the Taos Gorge bridge with keys in the car. ASAR called out for both ground-pounding and possible technical evacuation if body found. Teams spent a couple hours eliminating via a line search an area southwest of the Gorge Bridge. One team searched an area just under the bridge. Unfortunately the mission was suspended mid-day due to bad weather; but none the less, our assistance was greatly appreciated.

Cross Country Skier Turned Around on Raven's RidgeFemale skier became lost after skinning up Raven’s Ridge and taking turns down the drainage and Rio Nambe trail. Three teams went out in search of her. Team 2 found her initial tracks at the Wilderness gate heading up to Raven's Ridge. They continued down the Winsor trail while Team 3 followed these tracks up to Raven's ridge and confirmed she'd taken her turns down to Winsor. Team 2 located her at 3 am on the Rio Nambe trail.

Missing Hiker on Vista Rim TrailMissing female hiker on Vista Rim Trail near Ghost Ranch. Jason, John B, Justin, and Aaron responded. After an approximate 8 hour shift, great hike in beautiful country along with meteor shower; subject was located by ASAR members with attraction. A SFSAR team was able to access her and bring her home.

Lost Group of Hikers from New York3 lost hikers, 2 male, 1 female aged 27-34. A group of 6, set out hiking on Borrego Trail. The group got split up, 3 returning to the car, 3 continued on the trail. The group of 3 travelled all the way to Aspen Ranch. State Police aircraft searched but could not locate them. ASAR found the group with sound sweeps and brought then home safely. The group had limited gear and wearing poor clothing considering the environment and weather conditions.

Missing Hikers at Battleship RockTwo missing adult males, father and son planned for a picnic and 3-hour hike at Battleship Rock near Jemez Springs. Wife/mom called sheriff when party was overdue and had not returned. Mission initiated on the evening of Aug 28. One member of party was found safely and evacuated. Second subject was found deceased the next morning.
